Judges award BIMA Grand Prix to Channel 4 New Media

Article Date: 29th Nov 2007
The British Interactive Media Awards 2007 (The BIMAs) Grand Prix has been awarded to Channel 4 New Media for its 4oD project, which allows archived, on-demand programmes to be viewed free of charge. In an unprecedented and unanimous decision, Channel 4 New media was recognised for the ingenuity and simplicity of this new interface.

Paul Walsh, Chair of BIMA, applauds the Grand Prix winner: “4oD has proved to be extremely user friendly and causes minimal fuss for all the technology it includes. It has set a benchmark for on-demand programming in a rapidly evolving industry.”

The interface was referenced by the judges as having strong interactivity whilst being easy to understand and clearly laid out, offering the ability to browse the TV schedule and book downloads of future shows.

The BIMAs aim to recognise and reward creative excellence in interactive design and are much sought after in the UK’s new media industry.

The evening proved to be a great night for agencies and brands alike, with twenty-three awards given out on the night. GT picked up three awards and Publicis Dialog two, whilst LBi won another award following on from their success last year.

Matt Bagwell, the Chair of the BIMA Awards Group explained "Year on year the quality of the short listed entries is outstanding and continues to raise the bar for next year’s competition. Most noticeable, and hence worthy of a mention are; Army Jobs (by Publicis) which stood out for the quality of execution of the interactive component; and The Interactive Dive Cage (by Flaming Pear) which we commend for challenging conventional thinking on how we interact with media, whilst delivering a user experience that is still accessible and fun to use.”

The BIMAs, now in its 23rd year, are the only significant digital creative awards in the UK and celebrate digital creative excellence and best practice within the British interactive industry. Representing the cream of the creative industry, winners collected their awards at the ceremony held on 29th November at the Fantastic Midnight Gardens, Truman Galleries, London.
