Inspiring Future Talent

Employers realize that, in order to attract talented young people into the digital media industry, they need to reach them and inspire them – not only before career choices are made but actually before degree courses are chosen.

Have you got what it takes to win our exciting competition?

We’re looking for talented young people in schools and colleges to take part in our annual competition – and we want companies to get involved too.

What is the BIMA Schools Digital Challenge?

It’s our annual competition for students aged 11-18. We hold it in partnership with key industry organisations as part of our drive to inspire young people to get involved in the digital industry.

What does the BIMA Schools Digital Challenge involve?

This year, we’re asking teams in schools and colleges to come up with a digital solution that provides real practical benefits for their community.

What do you have to do?

Teams will need to combine creativity and technology with real social benefits. You don’t have to be a digital genius to take part – good ideas are more important than technical expertise – but it’s an opportunity to use exciting technologies, as well as to build lasting links with your community.

Who’s involved in the 2010 BIMA Schools Digital Challenge?

Some of the big names in digital media are already supporting the 2010 BIMA Schools Digital Challenge.

  • Sky Creative, Microsoft, TES Connect and the Mail Online are our media partners.
  • Microsoft is providing access to software for schools that register and teaching material for staff, as well as hosting the awards at its HQ in London.
  • Sky, Microsoft and Econsultancy are providing prizes.
  • New Media Age magazine and Revolution magazine are also lending support.

What can you win?

Awards range from technology for schools and individuals to invitations from leading interactive media companies to visit working studios or company headquarters.

How do you enter?

"The competition has given us a unique opportunity to meet key figures from industry, and allowed students to experience a worthwhile project outside of the curriculum."

Phil Rhodes, Information and Communication Technology teacher, Uplands Community College (joint winners of the BIMA Digital Challenge 2009)

"I think we have proved that you don't need all the fancy equipment, you just need teamwork and commitment, and that was shown by us."
