The concept of ‘building a wall’ to secure our perimeter prevails in the world of cyber security. The notion that technology alone can ‘prevent’ attackers from exploiting vulnerabilities, entering an environment and remaining undetected whilst they target our valuable assets (our data) is no longer a viable posture.

We must become more proactive in our stance against increasingly sophisticated cyber criminals and adapt to the threat landscape. Traditional perimeter defences must be complimented by the ability to proactively look for indications that an attack has taken place and assume that our defensive perimeter may have been compromised.

The damage isn't done but if you aren't looking for it, you won't find it. If you don't have the means to find it, you won't remove it. If you don't have the means to remove it, you can't protect the business.

Modern security requires a modern approach. Take the fight to the attacker with proactive monitoring, intrusion detection and incident response.

Agenda:

8.30am - Arrive, coffee and networking

8.45am - Talks kick off

Event speakers

Rob Russell, Managed Security Specialist at Rackspace

Rob is a key member of Rackspace security team, responsible for monitoring and detection services, round-the-clock rapid response and remediation, backup and disaster recovery support. His role is to shape and execute RMS strategy, to drive mind share and adoption of the Rackspace Managed Security, Privacy and Data Protection services internationally.

Jamie Woodruff, Certified Ethical Hacker

In his early 20s, Jamie Woodruff is one of the world’s leading authorities on hacking and cyber security.

Woodruff entered the public eye when he successfully hacked Facebook as part of a student competition at Bangor University where he was studying computer information systems. He has since uncovered security holes in numerous high-profile operations, including Kim Kardashian’s website, which he hacked to reveal that it was putting her fans’ data at serious risk.

Woodruff is a director of both a Metrics Cloud specialising in training, penetration testing and recruitment. He is also the cyber safety advisor for the Cyber Smile Foundation which specialises in online cyber bullying.

Woodruff talks about the importance of system and network security and is known for disclosing world-wide exploits and vulnerabilities within leading security applications such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Apple and Google. He finds existing exploits by infiltrating the companies in question. He demonstrated this by impersonating a Domino’s pizza delivery boy at a large financial institution and gaining access to their server room via pick-locking. All carried out under fully authorised, ethical penetration testing.
